Miles Davis Quintet: Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet 2014 Reissue MONO SHM SACD Universal (Japan)UCGO-9045 Not to be confused with Analogue Productions CPRJ 7094 SA
This disc got one perfect review: My wife was upstairs and yelled down, is that one of those Hi, HD, whatever CD's, YES, it sounds like the piano is right in our living room. That is as good as a review as I can get.
Performance: Miles, 22nd studio LP released in 1957. Recorded with 4 other musicians. I found this to have a swing feel and I highly enjoyed it. It is a straight moving jazz album, no doubt. It is not fusion or gimmicks or anything, just jazz.
Mono Sonics: Perfect. Great ambiance with clear and detailed instruments that have a wonderful soft sonic feel.
Packaging: Plastic jewel case with square corners. Original Prestige 7094 rear album notes. Mini paper booklet all in Japanese. Label of the disc is printed with a special green ink called 'Onsho Shiyou,' which minimizes diffuse reflection.
I have no prior experience with this recording. I do own a few AP Prestige Mono jazz recordings that are Hybrid SACD. My system excels at front end stereo/mono sources and I believe this SHM SACD is a better version based on the hybrid's that I have.
A very welcome addition to my library.
