Performance:   Sonics:
Sometimes Mr. Hurwitz at Classics Today loves Sir Roger Norrington approach, as in Beethoven’s Symphonies and “The Planets” for example, but, for the most, he always considers Norrington a dull (to be polite…) conductor. Not to tell anything about Sir Roger claims of the playing senza vibrato, “pure tone”, that Mr Hurwitz find, at least, stupifying, quarreling over every historical data Sir Roger uses to support his point of view.
Mr Hurwitz make his point clear, and this discussion could last for years and years. But, for me, this is what could make music listening “stupifying”.
The fact is that, having listened to the Brahms’s Symphonies in these SACD, I come to believe that what really matters is if you have a good time playing them or if you have not. And I DO have a wonderful time…
The details of the scoring come clear and with ease, with the finest possible orchestral playing. Not to speak about the beautiful sound of these SACD.
Interpretation, this is all about. You can like it or not, but for me, it is nice to have these new versions near the editions from Klemperer, Harnoncourt, Mackerras and Janowski. All of them give me great pleasure, it is like looking a painting from different angles.
Try them and see...
