|This is a terrific album with fantastic performances. Bill Evans has got to be my favourite jazz pianist. He tends to be impressionistic and minimalistic but he chooses great chord structure and dynamic playing that makes for great music.
This Shm Sacd sports superb sonics despite being..and lets be honest here..... a Dvd-Audio. Transferred from the original tapes at 24/192 pcm and then to Dsd is a slightly different listening experience than from true Dsd from the tapes...but still this is a beautiful shm-Sacd.
The sound is very good indeed. What is great is that unlike most previous Dvd-Audio discs from the past there is no compression at all here so the volume has to really be turned up high. Then once this is done a real audio treat will occur in your listening room.
Evans piano tone can be heard very well and the Harmonica playing is tremendous giving the album a very bittersweet. nostalgic and mournful experience. I have to say there is not a weak track in this whole disc. The tape hiss is heard slightly and this is a good sign. Nice soundstage with vibrant passages of music complete a most excellent Shm-Sacd.
A beautifil, meditative and relaxing album.
If you like Bill Evans give this one a try.
Every Evans collection should have this album in it.
