So many SHm Sacd's are now out of print. This is one of them.... unfortunately. And when things go out of print they get sold for outrageous prices.

Bill Evans wanted a change from his famous trio work in 1962 so he got together some of the best jazz people around to create this rather unique album.....unique that is, for Mr. Evans. This group is simply fantastic and although this work is a big departure from Evans trio work this is a truly great jazz album.

I have to admit....there are times where Evans piano work is a little lost. This is busy playing, very passionate with many solo's. I cant honestly say that Evans controls the tempo, feel or range of these proceedings but musically the playing is remarkable. Actually its Jones drumming that sets the fees and tempo as one would expect.

The sound is so much better than I expected. I'm astonished by how well the instruments are captured. Hubbard s trumpet is awesome...full of life and three dimensional feel.It truly blooms. Likewise with deep bass and piano. Drums and cymbals shine. In fact everything sounds amazing on this Shm Sacd. A great recording......very lush and vibrant. There is a very good 3 dimensional aspect to the sacd.

There is great chemistry between all members. Hall's electric guitar and Hubbard's trumpet create a gorgeous ballad on track two. And yes..Hubbard can sound a little like Miles Davis at times....but so what??? He also has his own style and hits the upper octaves in ways Davis did not.

If you;re a fan of Bill Evans I cant imagine not having this sacd in your collection. Musically its great jazz from a period that is long gone. Every song is perfectly played....full of joy. The talent is immense here. From start to finish its all good.
I didn't want it to end.

Highly recommended. A great album and recording.
A great Shm Sacd.
Play it loud.
