Performance:   Sonics:
These are beautifully played, fairly straightforward interpretations which show off du Pre at her best. The original HMV LP is a bit more transparent and has a marginally clearer orchestral picture, but the SACD captures the hall sound well and is definitely preferable to the mediocre RBCD release. If, however, you only want one SACD version of these two concertos, then I would go with Janos Starker on Mercury if you can find it, which has a bit more flair--and, as I recall, includes the Lalo concerto as well.
