Terence: Have you heard any of the modded SACD players? The reason I ask is that I too pretty much had given up on CDs, no longer finding them enjoyable. Then I upgraded to a VSE Level 5 modded Sony 9000 hoping to improve my SACD playback. It certainly did that. But the big surprise was the dramatic improvement on CDs. Maybe this is an impractical idea, but here goes. There should be some way to use the power of the internet to organize SACD supporters as a buying bloc to encourage the reissuing of certain titles in this format. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Hewitt's Chopin Nocturnes on SACD is played on the Fazioli. In any case, the piano has a very beautiful sound on this recording. ... more | |

Two items of interest to classical piano/SACD fans: First, the long-delayed SACD release of a recital by James Boyk appears to be finally happening. Boyk’s previous CD/LP releases have garnered rave reviews both for musicianship and sound quality. Does anyone know what’s going on with the Universal “Classical 50” titles? Some of these seem to have made a reappearance at HMV Japan, but not all. Some of my favorite titles (Mravinsky Tchaik, the Bohm Mozart, Pollini and Kempff Beethoven, the Solti and Kna Wagner) unfortunately are still missing in action.
