Mahler: Symphony No. 7 - Macal          (6 of 7 found this review helpful)

Another winner from the Exton-Macal-CPO team. The orchestra is in top form, giving a ripe sound that suits this most complex of Mahler symphonies. A very succesful recording of a great and complex work. Orchestra and chorus are first rate, the soloist is rather breathy and wobbly, although sings her part with fine sense of the poetry. Once again, Zinman and his Tonnhalle Orchestra live up to expectations: a straightforward reading, ... more
