Many lovers of this Symphony remember quite well the awesome recording by Solti and the Chicago Symphony. That recording is indeed a "tough act to follow." Another resounding Yes! and Wow! to this most recent entry from MTT and the SFS. This is a monumental work; in five movements, it is NOT easy to pull off. A remarkable performance! The engineering on the recording is absolutely first rate, and both the conducting and the playing are superb!
