Come to mention it, I did get the whistling sound I think that you are talking about, but found that it was some sort of mains interaction with my valve power amplifier (Beard P100). I cured it by plugging the latter into a different mains socket to the Krell, and it was gone. ... more | |

Osbert, I sometimes also get that whistling sound you mention; only occasionally does it become loud enough to really notice it. It depends on the actual disc being played, and appears to be a resonance mode that depends on the speed the disc is rotating at the time - it comes and goes. I typed "blu ray opera" on Amazon's Classical Music section and got 56 results. Whilst this is very small, I think in time it might get reasonable, given that many more people will own a big telly than own a SACD player! The thought of opera on a big screen in high-res PCM surround sound is exciting. Too much to ask for it to be high-res DSD, but ... more |
