Walton: The Symphonies - Owain Arwel Hughes        (8 of 15 found this review helpful)

First I have to say that William Walton is not in my first "top-ten" prefered composer but I'm mind-opened and curious of all music (in the area "classical") The English is not my native language, I'll be brief. About the recording quality this is the best choice for the two symphonies, especially ... more
Mahler: Symphony No. 1 - Jan Willem de Vriend          (2 of 5 found this review helpful)

The soundstage is narrow (too far). The bass are boomy. The interpretation of De Vriend don't please me (what a ... more

The orchester seems too far, in a "railways station" global acoustic. Compared to some of the most recent RCO I have (for example the 8th with ... more

... more
Strauss: Tone Poems - Albrecht          (3 of 7 found this review helpful)
  September 14, 2009

English is not my native langage so I'll not make a review of this SACD but it deserves more than previous revievers ranks for my taste (however 11/13 recommend it), and it is not quite fair for this SACD.

Yes of course, I spoke on the "technical" side of the recordings. But it's the same for me about the performance. ... more

The quality of the recording (microphones, placement, room acoustics) = 99.95% of the final result. The difference between DSD and PCM or DTS HD MA = 0.05%. Nobody is able to hear a difference. But shhh ... I'm politically incorrect. ... more
