This is one my worst sounding SACD's, the sound is warm coloured and it just will not open up. To be sure I took this SACD to a friend to listen it on his system. And it was the same, some pieces seem to be better, but then it sound muddy again.

One of the great Stereo SACD's out there, being very well recorded and played. I feel it is the closest you can get to a harpsichord on SACD, with good dynamics and clear unmanipulated sound. For me the works of Andrea Ruckers and Joannes Couchet stand out especially no 3, 14 and 17 on this disc. Of ... more |

About the Stereo performance only:
Good performance! You can really hear the working together of the tenor and choir. Good recording with lots of space and feeling for the space where it was recorded. |

I just love the drums at the start of this SACD! They are from Marche de Timbales and the Prélude of the Te Deum. For the rest this disc offers solid performances and good recordings. Perhaps the microphones could have been a bit further back, to get some more room information and overview of the ... more |

I always liked the Requiem of Fauré, as it can make you cry and smile, while other requiems can only make me serious and solemn. My prefered recording is from Sir Neville Marriner with the Academy and Chorus of St Martin the Fields on Philips CD from 1995.
