Actually it's the other way around. Sony acquired 50% of the rights to Michael Jackson's publishing catalog back when Jackson was experiencing some liquidity problems. We'll have to wait and see if/when Sony picks up the other half.... ... more

Waiting for the Multichannel Mixes of Thriller and the Michael Jackson catalog is something that could continue for years! Sony apparently spent over a Million Dollars in 2001 on Surround Sound SACD mixes of the Jackson catalog - only to fail to get artist signoff to release them.
