Rolling Stones: Some Girls      (10 of 10 found this review helpful)

Aside from Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks from way back, this is my third Stones sacd and a dearer title because it reminds me of high school. I previously own a 1990's rbcd version that I find to be loudly mastered, compressed, unclear (muddy to some) and quite bright. I waited quite long for a ... more

I own the German dvda version for years now and I like it better than the previous rbcds I owned in the past. I must admit that although I like the dvda for its details I find it a bit bright sounding at times and that there's a certain "edginess" in its vocals. When musicdirect announced that its ... more

Very good sound quality overall. Smooth vocals, substantial and firm bass, exciting guitar licks, catchy melodies and excellent vocal harmonies. I think there are at least two tracks that have more upfront vocals compared to other tracks, one of which is the first track Hot Blooded (actually the ... more

My copy came with Dad Loves His Work from musicdirect late November. There had been criticisms of this sacd version from other music forums for reasons that are unclear to me. Okay, I may be biased because I'm a JT fan but even a casual listener will not consider this album as a "light effort". The ... more

If a picture paints a thousand words, this album exudes a thousand melodies and evokes countless memories. One that easily transport listeners back in time: in their childhood days, in their days of youth, exuberance and recklessness. Ah, to be young again... An assembly of simple, heartfelt and ... more

My Marantz DV 6001 was modded so it doesn't sound like the stock unit anymore. However, the way I remembered it, the stock Marantz sounds warmer and has leaner bass compared to the Lexicon. IMO, the Lexicon edges it by a bit in terms of resolution and bass. ... more

I have the new Japan sacd. The multichannel is great. Spacious, detailed and mids have warmth which I find not common in rock releases. Plus it has fat bass. I wasn't able to buy the previous versions (sacd or dvda) so I can't really compare. On the stereo side, it handily betters the AF gold version (which I have) because it is wider, has bigger ... more
