Slightly off topic, but maybe of interest to those reading this thread...the Alpha label has embarked upon a cycle of Haydn's symphonies. The aim is to complete the series in 2032! Sadly the recordings aren't appearing on SACD. ... more | |

Yes it is a shame to see them go. Not long ago they were Gramophone magazine's shop of the year. When they moved to smaller premises a few years ago it seemed that the writing was on the wall. FWIW I was under the impression that their mail order business will continue. ... more | |

Thanks for bringing the 1996 edition to my attention; I didn't realise that it existed. Is it safe to assume that all post 1996 recordings use this new edition, or do some interpreters prefer the original version? ... more | |

I think the sound quality on the JSACD is pretty good. And the music is just great, probably my favourite from Miles' second quintet. Maybe MoFi will include Miles Smiles in a later batch of releases? ... more |
