Concerts and Follies in Pergolesi's time - I Musici      (9 of 11 found this review helpful)
  December 9, 2009

With Fonè's marketing department permission, I would like to propose a more fitting title for this disc. Maybe something like "Baroque Concertos for Reverberation and Multiple Reflections from Pergolesi's time." Yes, it's a little too long marketing-wise, but it does reflect what one hears here, ... more
Beethoven: Violin Sonatas - Accardo, Tomassi      (8 of 9 found this review helpful)
  December 9, 2009

For those who fancy recordings made in an anechoic chamber, this Fonè disc - originally recorded in 2004 but only released in 2009 - fits the bill perfectly. Actually, the one caveat is that it actually sounds like it was recorded in two separate anechoic chambers, one for the violin and another for ... more
Bruckner: Symphony No. 9 - Jaap van Zweden        (9 of 12 found this review helpful)
  November 22, 2009

The partnership between Jaap van Zweden and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra must be surely one of the most underrated in the classical music business nowadays. They consistently release SACDs of the highest standards, but are generally either utterly ignored or unceremoniously trashed ... more
Stravinsky: Petrushka, Pulcinella, Symphonies of Wind Instruments        (7 of 8 found this review helpful)

One way to define Exton's recording engineers, is that they are masters at the art of deconstructing and reconstructing an orchestral landscape. Case in point is this disc with Jaap van Zweden conducting the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras in Igor Stravinsky's Petrushka (1911 ... more
Bach: Purification Mass - Jakub Burzynski      (7 of 8 found this review helpful)
  October 15, 2009

Arts Music's virtually spotless track record in the baroque repertoire was reason enough to keep me on the lookout for their new SACD with Bach's unknown Purification Mass. But other prospective buyers should be made aware that the title is misleading in that Bach never really composed a ... more

Petrus is back, in his 8th or 9th personality. I actually lost count, but at least the monikers are getting better. The funny thing is that now the guy(s) admittedly opted out of the recording engineer's union, in favor of the professional photographer's association (http://sa-cd.net/showthread/51950//y?page=first). He (They) could certainly make ... more
Brick and Mortar SACD shopping in NYC
On the heels of Tower Records' bankruptcy, J&R's management was smart enough to move their classical department from its claustrophobic basement room to a much larger area, upstairs in the same building. They carry a lot of SACDs as per http://www.jr.com/product/productListing.jsp?Ntt=sacd&N=4533&Ns=ReleaseDate. PS: Sort by "Release Date" after ... more

Once again... He's no newbie. Just add the names madde, shopper and kuiteh to the list by that wacko previously known as petrus, zinkear, audiomaster, jullepoika, onestone, and who knows what else. The poor fella has sank so low that he's now resorting to a proxy server to post from different IP addresses, as per a post (now deleted, along with ... more

Laughable indeed, a lively conversation between your multiple selves. So, it's really more like one cup for (the one of) you. Nevertheless, it's just amazing how folks here fail to see the signs and keep falling for the same traps, time after time... ... more
