Rickie Lee Jones: The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard        (2 of 3 found this review helpful)
  April 13, 2007

Here's an off-the-wall project. Rickie Lee Jones took the writings of a friend about Jesus and decided to reshape them into here own lyrics and music. On first impression, the words are somewhat hit and miss, but the music has a raw, organic flavor to it, mostly hard rock, but also some slower more ... more
John Hiatt: Master of Disaster          (2 of 3 found this review helpful)
  January 2, 2006

Kudos to John Hiatt for releasing this album in hi-res as a matter of course. Here's hoping that starts a trend amongst recording companies. The music is very good, with his typically wry, humorous view of love and other things. And we get a very interesting surround mix, one that doesn't overwhelm ... more

What a beautiful job of surround mixing on this classic recording! Eleanor McEvoy is trying to share some very personal stuff here, and it's cloaked with a layer of ... more
Larry Chernicoff: October        (2 of 3 found this review helpful)
  April 18, 2005

A sublime performance of chamber jazz/classical music that draws the listener into the band's hypnotic vibe. Chernicoff and his cohorts improvise from various modal scales to create a totally unique fabric of sound that emerges as one unified composition. This recording won the "Best Made for ... more

I have always loved Jorma Kaukonen's "Blue Country Heart", which he recorded with Jerry Douglass and a bunch of other great pickers. It's the most real-sounding recording of acoustic instruments I've ever heard. ... more
Rear Speakers
January 11, 2005
Given that most listener's music systems also double as home theater, full range is more than a little impractical. I have a pair of Axiom QS8's in the rear that do an excellent job on both multichannel music requiring discrete placement of sound sources and movies too. But if cost is no object and you have a large enough room, I would go for the ... more
