I have no argument with Robert von Bahr... I really think he is an artist with a microphone, but poor orchestra playing is still poor orchestra playing, no matter how much insults want to be hurled by a producer, who has a financial interest in selling discs, no matter what. Three problems... The organ in Sala Sao Paulo is electronic and very poorly voiced for the hall. Most fine digital instruments are balanced by the factory to really fill the air volume of the hall... I really don't see the value in most of the late Klemperer recordings, unless one is needing an electronic soporific... UGH... The Mahler "Das Lied" and "Symphony No.2" are quite good, but Mozart and Mendelssohn??? UGH... ... more |
