I partly agree with the review above, but there is a major caveat. I think that it was wrong to cast Klaus Florian Vogt in the title role even though he has sung the role in Bayreuth and elsewhere. It is difficult to assess this set of discs fairly because the recording quality is simply awful. After repeated listening my overall judgement has not changed. The metallic, unpleasant sound of the violins is worse than on any redbook CD. Combined with a lack of bass (and warmth), this creates a ...
