1st Movement Szell with Cocertgebouw-Orchester Amsterdam (1966). A different reading that Furtwangler or Karajan... slower... strings are sharper.. very tight, but sometimes sounds a little metronomic.. grandeur instead of running fear (Karajan) or brooding evil (Furtwangler). A dignified ... more

Lets get the recording out the way.. brilliant! DSD direct and good mike placement really shows. Now to the performance... Very nimble performance, not pacey, not rushed, nimble. This is really amazing.. I was not expecting this disk to be soo good. The sound quality of the Harpicord is amazing and supercedes my previous reference, Bach: Goldberg Variations - Vinikour on Delos. The music I have no heard of before but is wonderfull. No holds barred recommendation on ... more

This is a nice SACD. Don't get too put off by the title, its not in the beeps and boops camp of 20thC classical. The first concerto is not bad at the start but I preferred the 3rd movement which was very pleasant. The 2nd Clarinet Concerto was lovely from the get go.. nice full Clarinet sound, ... more
