This is what an SACD remastering should be -- detail, bottom end, air, slam, everything one hopes for from SACD. The music of course speaks for itself. If you like this album, it's a no-brainer that you should purchase this version, especially given the reasonable price compared with SHM.

This is such a great album, one of my favorites of the genre (fusion), and I was really looking forward to the SACD version for vastly improved sonics over the original redbook version, which was compressed, harsh and brittle with little bottom end or balance. My bona fides: well over 200 SACDs, close to 100 DCC and MFSL gold cds, and a precisely tuned audio system including Creek amp, REL sub, Sony SCD 777es cd player. Recently purchased this, based partly on the reviews here. MISTAKE ! The music, of course, speaks for itself, but if you are reading these reviews then it is the sound quality/SACD transfer that is at issue. The only thing I have to add to the helpful and for the most part accurate reviews above is that, though the SACD version of 'Virtuoso' is a vast improvement over the redbook version, it is NOT a beautifully recorded album, and Pass was using a very scratchy sounding guitar/technique on it.
