Simply put, while this is a fine a recording of "Meistersinger," it's not really all that special. I doubt it will surpass anyone's favorite version. Overall, this is a pretty satisfying recording of the Mahler 1. While Orozco-Estrada doesn't offer any real insights, he never gets in the way of the music, weighing it down with fussy micromanagement.
