This is a disc of mostly unaccompanied 16th century English religious choral works sung (in Latin and English) by what seems to be the Dutch equivalent of Chanticleer, the celebrated all-male a capella chorus based in San Francisco. I'm not an expert in this sort of music by any means, but the group seems to do a very good job and the music is very enjoyable. The choral pieces are interspersed from time to time with short instrumental pieces (a small viol ensemble and solo organ). The recording is absolutely uncanny in its realism, and even on my modest setup (in stereo) it is not difficult at all to imagine the singers performing right in front of you. Another winner from Channel Classics!
