Performance:   Sonics:
There are no complaints about the quality of the music, or of the recording. Heard in multichannel this is a most satisfying issue. Charpentier has yet to sound "individual" to these ears, but it was probably not an aim to be expected of the pre-romantic composers. Hailing from the late 1600s, he was from an age that respected technical skill with the conventional materials. But, I simply cannot recommend this recording. My ears tell me that far too often the singing is out of tune. Not dramatically awful, but enough to leave me uneasy. The worst offenders are the soloists during the Mass for 4 choirs who seem to drift off. No, I haven't got perfect pitch, no I'm not a singer, I'm simply an audience. Maybe you will not respond as I have, and the music is certainly beautiful.
