Stevie Ray's breakout 1984 effort is more than worth the time spent to reissue the album on SACD. His vocal and guitar-playing skills were at their peak at the time, and the backing of "Double Trouble" adds a lot to the overall performance. Sonically, this disc is about as much as you can ask of the SACD format: decay on drums and cymbals is highly realistic, guitars rise and fade just as they do in person, and Stevie's voice sounds as if it is right there in your listening room. Of the 15 or so SACDs that I've heard, I can truly say that this disc is among the very best I have heard from the standpoint of sonics. An excellent effort on all fronts!

This was one of the first SACDs and for a long time was considered the best recorded pop/rock SACD.

I was not familar with SRV so this was new for me. With the first cut, I often find myself saying, "This is pretty good", but after a while I seem to be magically absorded by the music. For me, I don't get bored listening to this album.

While still very well recorded, I think there are better recorded pop albums including DSOTM, Police, Dylan, Shania Twain, Zoomies, CCR, Bangles, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Blood Sweat & Tears.

I rate Performance and Sonics both as 4.5.

This was one of my first SACD's and it's been a while since I played it, but SRV's music is timeless so no matter how long you have not listened to these albums there will always be a day when you feel the need to listen to them. And then they sound right at home. And boy, what an improvement over the RBCD ! The CD sounds OK, but the SACD smokes it in terms of depth, air, decay, bass, weight, detail retrieval and clarity. The music is vintage guitar, texas blues. Plus the SA-CD has five bonus tracks, including 'Hide Away' (some deep bass there ) and 'Look At Little Sister', and a short interview with SRV in which he introduces the Hide Away track. There is the beautiful ballad 'Tin Pan Alley' and of course Hendrix' 'Voodoo Chile' a 7+ minute tour de force.

Big SRV fan. My favourite SRV album. Tin Pan Alley still blows me away. Shame these aren't hybrids/mch. Ridiculous pricing though - 435 euros through Amazon fr. LOL! As if anyone in their right mind would spend that much. I'll stick with my remastered RBCD.
