This sacd has a good live sound. Great atmosphere, (I should be because it is live). I like this cd very much. The recording is good, very direct. Her voice is beautiful but that should be no surprise.
As far as i can see it is a direct DSD recording.

very good, i play it a lot and it never bores me.

This album is the fourth Alison Krauss SACD I bought and I love it like all the other ones. Sound quality is great and the music is fantastic.

I have both SACD and CD version of this recording. The CD version is very well recorded and there is very little benifit, other than audience noises in surround speakers, with the SACD version. In fact, on a good CD player the cd version sounds warmer.

Sounds great, great performance as usual by AK+US. The only quibble I have is that they mic Alison's voice to sound "thin," but this is the case on most of her recordings, not just this one. They could easily use a mic that would give her voice some more beefiness or heft, but "whatever." Anticipating repeated listenings of this disc, I could do without some of the chat between songs, but there's actually very little of that.

When you buy this double album you're getting sort of a "Greatest Hits" package plus some tunes from "O Brother Where Art Thou" in case you need just one more version of "I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow." Glad I have it in my collection. And the original recording is DSD, so you're hearing the master recording. Cool.

I am giving this SACD 5 stars on the performance because of the musicians. These musicians are exceptional. They are crisp, clear, and well balanced. They know, too, how to make an instrument sing with the song. For those people that play instruments, you know what I'm talking about. There are those who are technical wonders and then there are those who may not be technical masters, but know how to make the music come to life through the instrument. These people have that gift and it is a true pleasure to hear it.

The vocals are pretty good. I read one review that mentioned a thin Alison voice, but I don't have that same feel. I just believe that it is natural for her. She does have one awesome voice that fits very well with the instruments. The other members of the Union Station band that sing are pretty good as well. Still, the instrumentation steals the show for me.

The only reason I am giving it a four star on recording is because there is no music in the center channel. I would have appreciated some music from here to create the stage since this is a live performance. Most people have a reasonable spread between their from speakers (as I do) and the gap is missed when you sit down to listen to the album. Besides the lack of the center channel, I can not find any real flaws in the recording.

I find this to be one of the finest recorded discs in my collection. Added to that, the performances are uniformly outstanding. Each musician is superb and this album has made me a fan of bluegrass (something that five years ago I would have laughed at if anyone had suggested it). I make everyone listen to it and I highly recommend it.

To set the table for this review let me say that I had only vaguely heard of Allison Krauss when I bought this album. Probably from skipping over the reviews in Stereophile/Absolute Sound as I'm not a country fan. I picked this double disc set up for $9 at Rasputin where I buy just about anything/everything SACD. Finally, I'm a jazz, rock, fusion, kinda guy, so pls take that into account as you read on.

My impressions of this album: it is awesome! I mean awesome! Go buy it. Now! You needn't read any further. What, you're still reading? OK, here is why you should buy this album:

* It's a great buy 2 discs for the price of one
* The music crosses over very well
* The musicians are all excellent
* The recording is incredible in mc (I have 4 full range speakers)
* Allison has an enchanting voice (thin I heard someone say? Not on my system buddy!)

As you may have guessed this is one of my favorite albums. I literally have to force myself not to play it and listen to something else... it's that good. The whole thing is recorded in DSD and the sound is just supurb. Especially for a live performance, which I usually eschew. The whole thing just floats there like a real concert. It's very well done. The best in fact, better than "Swing Live," and many other abortive attempts at capturing the you are there experience.

So the you have it. A rave review by a non-country guy. My country "collection" consists of Willie's "Stardust" (crystal clear vocals) and Lucinda Williams "Gravel Road," (played twice and regret buying). Maybe, if you love country, you'll hate this album as I have no idea about country, blue-grass, country & western, etc. But I do know this is excellent music, singing, recording, and producing. It is one of my favorite albums and I keep checking at Rasputins for more AK albums. Highly recommended

PS I'm going to play it right now :)
