When I first saw this on Blu-ray I figured it would be a great one to own. The selections are very good and man did they ever pack this thing. 50 songs on one disc. The song selection could be argued but no matter what they did, that could be the case. Regarding the sound quality, overall it is pretty good though some songs sound wonderful others sound just so-so. Unfortunately, I felt that the so-so outweighed the wonderful, which where to few and to far between. They do not seem to have a reason either like era. Overall I was disappointed in this purchase but that could be due my expectations. I have found that the old SACDs and high definition downloads sound better. The price is very reasonable with this release so you are not gambling much here.

If you are an audiophile this disc isn't for you. You can dismiss the 24/96 as mere marketing, it doesn't help the audio quality. This disc is for the person that wants a lot of great content and is willing to accept CD quality on the majority of the songlist. You can pick up a used copy in the $20 range. This is a pretty good bargain considering the number of songs and on one disc. You could put this disc on and get 3 hours of music without ever leaving your seating area. Played at lower volumes it would provide great background music for a party. Increasing the volume reveals the flaws and increases the brightness. The overall Dynamic Range for this disc averages at 9, with some tracks dipping all the way to 5(which is terrible). The sonics on this are a 2; if you put something on a hi resolution format and provide 24/96 you have to provide something better in the sound quality department. I can give high marks for the performance because this disc is loaded with hits and we are talking about the Rolling Stones, so 4 is justified. Just don't confuse the performance numbers with the sound quality of the disc.

With so many tracks there are some that are of poor quality.

Just grab a marker and jot down the good ones on the front of the disk, I counted at least 17 or so 5-star tracks I would demo to any audiophile friend.

Get it, you will not regret it.

The Rolling Stones - GRRR! Blu Ray Audio

This 2 channel stereo only is a big bang for buck. Hate the gorilla cover, but, whatever. I am not a vinyl person and I appreciate high end CD's but I could kind of tell that the tracks leading up to Sympathy for the Devil would be good on vinyl as even though this is state of the art transfer might sound a little better with that warm sound the LP people talk about.

After Sympathy, the original recordings had improved and I feel the transfer to this Blu Ray comes out better. So I guess a mixed bag of thoughts. Can't beat the price and glad I have it. Great disc when fiends come over who are not audiophile.
