Deep Purple: Made in Japan

I am surprised to find no reviews for this incredibly awesome Blu Ray disc.

Original recorded and released in 1972. Slash says" One of the most epic rock and roll albums ever recorded". I certainly agree and this Blu Ray is at the very top of my HFPA collection, a powerhouse release. Rolling Stones Readers poll ranks 6th best live album of all time, that means something.

I chose to listen to the stereo only choice via the 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio 24-bit/96Khz.

Performance: Having just come off the recording of the successful studio album Machine Head (get the DVD~A),I believe this band is at there pinnacle, and is just a heavy, very aggressive and in sync with each other. How many adjectives can I come up with? Dynamite!

Stereo Sonics: You are allowed two choices in straight order. 7 tracks given to you Osaka, August 16th (New 2013 Mix/Master) and 2013 Remaster of the original 1972 mix which unlike the first all Aug 16th Osaka tracks has the last, same song, 7 tracks recorded 2 tracks in Tokyo and two tracks with Aug 15th and 17th. A little confusing but if you purchase disc it all makes sense.
I for what ever reason preferred the first 7 version New 2013 Mix/Master.
Note: I believe the sonic differences between the two mixes is for the most part great and equal, the 1972 mix has a little bit more talking of band and very slightly different way of playing. Lets take The Mule Drum Solo, I am not able to tell if Paice hits the drums 2000 times or 2010 times.
Anyway, sonics. Beautiful, big punchy sound, high volume is a bonus. Both mixes have great stereo separation, Blackmore always on the left, Lord on right and Gillian, Paice, and Glover more center, except during solos.

So I don't come off as brainless, I do prefer the New 2013 Mix/Master. A little more punch for me.

Packaging: Standard HFPA plastic case. Mini booklet with fantastic liner historical notes. Download card. 1972 and 2014 credits.
Easy onscreen menu, with one flaw. The onscreen menu is correct order of the 14 tracks, the rear of package has incorrect order, track 9 should be 10 and track 10 should be 9.

Lets stop with I love this and if you are a hard rocker and appreciate Deep Purple's contribution to influencing generations of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal than you will need to add this sonic beauty to your collection.

And Rickko if you are listening, please fill in all my holes with an improved review.

Sonics:
I'll be brief and get right to the point. This latest remastering of a classic album is a massive failure. The DR of this version is a pathetic 8, which was once a 12. This is another in a long line of albums that have been destroyed by modern remastering. Instead of buying this compressed mess invest in an older CD version or vinyl and get the Dynamic Range this album once had. I'm giving this a 3 based on the incredible content. The sad part is that on some of the vocals you can see the potential this disc could have when the instruments are not present and it wasn't so compressed.
