Reviews: Sonny Rollins: Saxophone Colossus

Reviews: 1

Review by siebrand November 18, 2015
Performance:   Sonics:
really hard to say if, artistically, this one is more beautiful than "maddness". Both are "mono", but what a sound!
With Rollins it is hard to go wrong, especially when we listen to his works of the 1960s ...
The quartet he has put together here is really good. They do not regret the various Garland, Jones, Chambers. Here the good Sonny plays with Flanagan, Watkins, Roach.

You can not say they are more or less good, but almost ... almost ... I prefer this. "Colossus"... I do not know why..., maybe for the drumming of Max Roach?
Tecnical speaking, as said, it is not a "stereo", but, as it happens in "Tenor Maddness" is one of those few records MONO that are particularly pleasant to listen.

To me, in general, MONO discs...... I don't love mono and I buy them almost never, but for certain masterpieces we can make an exception.
CHOOSE not among this SACD or Tenor Madness .... take them both. Your ears will thank you.
of course ... then do not miss the great album "Way out west in Stereo. It 's always a SACD "Analogue Productions ". and is a bit' more" cheerful ", if I'm allowed to say so... Great music, guys, great productions, these!
