It's best approached as kitsch. I laugh every time the ridiculous ondes martenot whizzes by -- possibly the worst instrument ever.

I prefer the Chailly SACD. Messiaen: Turangalîla Symphony - Chailly
The MC presentation is more interesting than the hall sound only on this disc. I also prefer the soloists' balances on the Decca SACD. The ondes Martenot is a bit too forward in the mix here at unexpected times.
