Overall, the Marantz AV8801 is the best-sounding preamplifier-processor I have heard at or below its price. I'm not saying that you need to chuck your present pre-pro, but I wouldn't buy a new one without seriously considering the AV8801. It offers a combination of transparency and harmonic balance that challenges the very best, while incorporating more cutting-edge facilities than most of those high-end processors support...
Footnote 4: Marantz is offering an "ongoing bundle price" to buyers who purchase both the AV8801 and MM8077 at the same time. The $1000 discount makes the pairing especially attractive. http://www.stereophile.com/content/music-round-59-page-2
America ; seems amazon.com lists many great discounts and 'bundles' if you know the Marantz' you'd like... If location plus price is right, good way to /support this site :)
Personally, Bobpaule (pursuing highest analogue playback) I "actually would" in Kal's words : "daisychained Reference integrated amps with a proprietary digital link." /showthread/111076//y?page=first

I ordered the Marantz AV8801 based on the improved analog stage as I am without Atmos aspirations. The Stereophile and Secrets (of HT and HF) reviews but mainly auditioning convinced me.

Good choice and good luck with it. A friend of mine owns one and is quite happy with it vs. his prior Integra 80.1.

the AV8801 will process analog signals from my UD9004
Keeping it somewhat simple, to your beginning Post, of Marantz—its 'press arm' is farther from its 'heart' ; each distributor or dealer can, and does, write localised superlatives to engage...
Me, I trust Ken's central quality control behind product releases ; personally auditioning products beats reading...
And reading established Users' experiences beats unresponsive strangers, be they professional reviewers...
I welcome sharing of thoughts...
