You were implying that. Who else is talking about boycotting on this thread!!??

Of course everyone is free to make their own decisions and speak openly about such issues. If members here want to continue buying and listening to Gergiev's performances, they are in their right to do that.

Others are expressing their concern over Gergiev's behavior on serious issues... and they are free to express such concern.

The troubles that transgenders or the people living in Missouri face are just as important. But...notice the difference with Missouri. There we can hear both sides of the issue. In Russia, we only hear one side and... Gergiev is one of that side's most prominent advocates.

No, I wasn't implying it either. I don't think you understand what an analogy is. I wasn't at all implying that Gergiev uses art for political ends, not for a minute, as I explained in my last post. You were the one implying that.

And to be clear: I wasn't the one who started to talk about 'don't support Gergiev', and in my vocabulary 'I don't support x for reason y' is equivalent to saying 'I boycott x for reason y'.

And please stop lecturing us about Russia's supposed one-sidedness, that's pure cold war ideology. We in the West are not in any way better when it comes to issues of freedom, I need only remind you of the NSA saga, Wikileaks etc.

You're welcome. Indeed, it's a great recording of one of the best in the genre (both for violin and piano concerto). It's on repeat listening here in the house.

I don't support artists like Gergiev who support Putin's imperialist wars of aggression abroad and authoritarian oppression and antiliberal practices at home, so I have not heard and will never hear this and thus don't and won't have an opinion about its musical worth.

Surely there are other (political) forums where you can air your views.

You can boycott whoever you want, but you don't need to tell us every time.

+1

Political proselytizing is obnoxious. These tiresome rants don't belong here.

It's hardly a "view" that Putin is waging an imperialist war of aggression abroad as we speak and engaging in oppressive practices at home (don't you guys read the papers?), and even less is it "proselytizing" to state what I said -- that I boycott warmongers and supporters of repressive regimes. Just one criterion among many that are constantly brought up also on these pages (cf. "I don't buy Japanese because I don't like the pricing structure = economics and culture in Japan").

Claude is more correct, as usual, although I have not disclosed my buying practices nearly "every time." I think maybe thrice, total, of several hundred individual occasions I've considered a purchase here.

By the way, war is war. It doesn't require a "political" stance to state as much. People are dying and being mutilated, cities are being destroyed, lives made impossible, and those responsible for it even themselves state they are an "army." Armies wage wars.

You obviously are not going to cease your obnoxious diatribes, so this thread just went off my dance card. Most of us read the papers, so don't need your prattle.
