Tempting...

Let someone else be the guinea pig, Adam. It's not like it's going OOP any time soon. If it garners great reviews, both musically and sonically then order it.

Steve Wilson wants to create 5.1 remixes for Kate Bush and Michael Jackson.

'Bout time!

The Golden Age of Multichannel is Upon Us.

According to the Quadraphonic Discography, FIVE Jose Feliciano discs were released in QUAD:

10 to 23.....Alive~O.....Compartments......Feliciano and Fireworks (the latter two were CD~4 Japanese pressings).

Would be wonderful to have these available in 4.0 on SACD!

Ironically, the iconic album Feliciano, remastered in 2011 is only available as a CD~R (manufactured upon demand) from AmazonUS.

I can't see the Feliciano Quads happening unless label or artist want them out, sadly and that looks pretty unlikely.

I love your indomitable spirit & can-do attitude! Kate Bush stuff has been remixed very recently but I'm now hearing it was for another project and not 5.1 unfortunately. As for MJ, who knows, Thriller was remixed into 5.1 by Mick Guzauski some 10+ years ago but as to whether it will ever make it out of the vaults is anybody's guess.

It does feel like a great time for surround music, with no signs of the good times abating.

I am your guinea pig. I will post comments here once I have had a chance to listen. I thought this record company's Nancy Sinatra SACD was a guilty pleasure. Some of it sounded very good. And the camp factor can't be underestimated. Still, I have different expectations from this disc, as I place the Four Seasons in a more "serious" category musically.

Should be here in a couple of days...Keeping fingers crossed.

It will also be dependent on the judgement of the reissue labels as to whether one or more of the Feliciano albums would sell well as a remastered SACD.

You can always put in your requests and see. :)

There's only a couple of hits on this, so those could be re-recordings but the rest of it I wouldn't think so.

The first 12 tracks are a straight reissue of the first 4 Seasons LP - not sure where the other 4 come from.

I have listened to this once and plan to listen a couple more times but here is my initial impression. Sonics I think is 4.5 stars after a handicap for the era, and a presumed low recording budget. What makes this painful is despite engineers already proving what goes into good stereo sound especially in classical recordings of the times, someone here chose to put all the instruments out of the left speaker and all of the vocals out of the right. The last 4 tracks do a better job of stereo imaging. It seems to have been a common practice but still I find it hard to listen to.

There is also occasional vocal distortions which may be due to the recording. Or maybe it's the harmonies themselves overloading the mic. Greater detail seems to expose a lack of tightness in the harmonies.

Overall detail is good and there's some bass and bass drum that show nicely on a couple of songs. Possibly some subtle volume changes to the vocals in the middle of a few songs, but can't tell if it's a recording artifact or not.

Outside of the two hits, the songs are charming with an American Graffiti feel to them. Most of the music is very engaging. I am not a mono for the sake of mono guy, but I think it would be better than the "instruments over here and voices way over here" approach that was done with this.

Is this the 4 Seasons SACD best as the title implies? Since it is probably their only sacd, technically I think that is correct. Two hits, then doo wop, bad stereo, good detail. Mixed bag. Buy if you are a fan, or a completist. Others can probably live without it, but it's not bad.

Well this is a first impression so I will amend as neede d after listening again tomorrow.

Ok listened again this morning. My initial impressions seem to bear up well. Nothing to change after listening again. the sound is good, stereo weird but not unusual for the period. Fans and completist will be most interested.

Thank you for all the info.

Can I just confirm, these strike you as definitely being the original recordings we all know? (and not later re-recordings like the Feliciano SACD?).
