I don't think that the new UHD Blu-ray players will necessarily be incompatible with existing 3D Blu-ray discs but there is no 4K 3D as part of the UHD Blu-ray spec.

The only player I've seen announced so far, the Samsung UBD-K8500, will play 3D Blu-rays.

Well, that's reassuring to know, k~spin, but, IMHO, a missed opportunity, as I'm sure you'd agree, 4K 3D would be "the cat's meow!"

Yeah, not sure whether there is a technical reason it has been left out or it's just that the BDA don't think there's a market for it.

3D wasn't part of the original Blu-ray specs either though so it's possible they'll add it at a later date. This would possibly mean buying a new player though...

Will check it out Ralphie.

Got my Nat King Cole Hybrid/SACD stereo Christmas from AF yesterday

along with the 5.1 Queen, A Night At The Odeon, BD~V. The 5.1 is DTS-HD Master Audio 96/24. I expect only ambient, but looks like overall a very good watching/listening experience.

I played the AF Nat King Cole hybrid SACD Christmas album last night and was NOT overly impressed. Nothing says Christmas like my beloved and superbly recorded and VERY discrete Mannheim Steamroller DVD~As which are still cheap and it's the kind of gift to oneself that "Keeps on giving!"

Also received the two remastered Rhino RBCDs of Van Morrison's Astral Weeks and His Band and Choir with copious bonus tracks. Superb!

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday rapidly approaching....now's the time to stock up on THE best bargains of the year.

And yes, "Grandpa".....ALL we can hope for is a HIGH RES New Years.............which is MY New Year's RESolution!

And while we're ALL in the Christmas Spirit, don't overlook the wonderful SHM~CD of Jon Anderson's Three Kings (on the Elektra Label). A very limited Japanese pressing of a rare OOP title.

A 'YES' CHRISTMAS, INDEED.

A fantastic overlooked Christmas album is guitarist John Fahey's Christmas album....available now with Volume II included. Samples: http://www.discogs.com/John-Fahey-The-New-Possibility-John-Faheys-Guitar-Soli-Christmas-Album/master/136187

Superbly recorded (even for RBCD) guitar solos on the Takoma label. Reissued in 2000 with Volume II included and available at AmazonUS.

And lest we forget the Thanksgiving Spirit, I present for your perusal: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=turkey+in+the+straw+videos&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=6F4B24B043347F36AACB6F4B24B043347F36AACB

HEE, HAW!

Well... Whatcha waiting for? Get it out of the box and play it, Mark ;-)

It might not be Zeppelin or Metallica, but Mannheim Steamroller have put together a nice, festive compilation of Xmas standards in the style of Windham Hill albums of the 1980s.

This is the only time of year that you'll be interested in listening to Xmas music. In a couple of weeks it'll all be over.
