Mystified. I've now tried this BDA every which way I can think of on my main setup (PCM, DTS HD MA, Dolby True HD) with the BDP set to Bitstream the codecs "as is" and then switching it, getting the player's DACs to decode them instead as PCM (all @192/24.. every conceivable way) and no matter what I do, I still don't like it - there's still all the negatives I've already mentioned here & elsewhere online (bloated low end, distortion abounds - particularly evident on vocals, splashy cymbals, tizzing quality to keys which are especially naff on "Bloody Well Right"..) if this is the best Hi-Res that can be extracted from the source I'll eat my bloody hat. The Hi-Res download and CD may well be brilliant and I've no reason to doubt everyone who's said so thus far.. but this HFPA BDA, on my setup and in every configuration I can muster at the very least, is a total and utter disappointment.

I don't not believe it, but for the life of me I cannot understand why anyone (outside of wanting MCH) would buy a BR disc instead of a download. The 24/192 is cheaper, there is for most no VAT or sales tax, does not have the silly rights management (which is where I suspect these BR discs are going wrong, in the authoring stage) and there is not the hassle of a physical disc. My experience has been that getting a transport out of the way as a middleman brings sonics benefits too.

Because some of us still DO like physical discs and some of the DR scores of the various download site titles (pop/rock) have been less than stellar....in fact, some have been downright dismal.

At least with a disc, you can always ship it back and demand a refund.

Don't know if the same applies to the download sites....refunds.....credits?

Illuminate us, Robert?

LOL. If the "DR score" is dismal for a download, you can be certain that the corresponding physical disc will be just as bad.

Actually, in theory you can ship a disc back to a retailer if defective, not because you just don't like it, but I suppose in our society today people do that.

You CAN get a refund for a download or a credit, Ralph. If it is defective.

Obviously not in any other claimed situation.

Quite simply, Robert, physical discs ARE our children while downloads remain cyberspace bastards ;-) !

You need to watch more good science fiction.

See any CD's in the future? Nope. See any Blu-Rays? Nope. See any vinyl? Yup, often. Cassettes? Sometimes.

But mostly it's not physical.

What I see in our future is war and global warming.

I watch WAY too much Science Fiction....That's my problem. And IMHO, none of it makes sense. Too many plot holes! Happen to see Snowpiercer? Talk about PLOT HOLES........

I will be downloading in the VERY near future, so it's no longer an issue.

My "children" will then go barefoot and malnourished...and suffer slipped discs ;-) !

Hey Astral-boy, check the wording in the banner above. The focus of this site is currently disc-based (specifically Super Audio CD and Blu-ray Audio) content ... of which there's plenty now and lots more to come. Your ability to post here is largely supported by the sale of discs in these formats. For sure downloads have their place, but most music lovers will want to avail themselves of multiple formats where it makes sense to do so. So please spare us from your dumb polarized prognostications.

Hey - Little Stevie, despite your self titled godliness and being site owner doesn't make you impervious to coming across like a jerk.

There is no need for useless inflammation. I am surrounded by people that prefer downloads prior to buying physical media - they completely do not understand why I am putting such amounts of money monthly when I still insist on optical discs.

My main reason is durability and longevity of the recorded data. Otherwise there should be no difference tween downloaded codec and optical disc. As ralph mentioned there might be faulty products on both sides - optical disc you ran still return to the seller if it is faulty or badly mastered. With download you agree that the money you put into are not refundable.

That is it and there is no need to accuse one another for virtually disputable quality of each cause Music matters and not the container.
