Some of us rip our SACDs for playback via a computer.

I have upgraded my system and looking at my profile is best.

This past week I did a new upgrade and now I have great joy as it is the best system I have ever owned.
When I moved into my new house 3 years ago our connected living room/dining room is a small/meduim L shaped space. My system is designed as a Home Theater as I cannot have a designated listening space only, so music and TV are same set up. Three years agoI thought best was to build the front system around the fireplace and because of odd room shape put the rears in the ceiling. Needless to say I was never that happy as it didn't sound that good.
...

It has been a very stressful undertaking as it looked a little rough at first and as my wife said, a man cave. Having the two amps on the floor stand in my wife's opinion and mine looks ugly with our decor. I will have the cabinet maker build a window seat to hold the two amps. Design for proper ventilation will be critical.

Mark, i found your discussion of real-world issues with speaker and amplifier placement, aesthetics and acoustics quite relevant to my own situation, as well as interesting in its own right. Have taken the liberty of sending you an email directly.

Current main system has very few components:

Transport: MSB Universal Media Transport
DAC: MSB Signature DAC IV+
Speakers (Active): SGR MT3.2

I bought some new speaker stands to take my ATC 7s off the wall because although wall mounting was good for my Linn Kans, it wasn't so good for my ATC 7s and putting them on Partington Super Dreadnoughts (themselves on two pairs of Mana Acoustics Soundbases) has worked wonders!

System remains:

Digital (2.0):
Mac Mini (Windows 7/JRiver)>Marantz NR1504>Teddy Pardo i80a>ATC SCM7

Digital (4.0):
(f): Mac Mini>Marantz NR1504>Teddy Pardo i80a>ATC SCM7
(r): Mac Mini>Marantz NR1504>ATC SCM7
(c): no centre
(s): no sub

Oh, I also added a new vinyl storage unit so I can keep LPs next to my turntable :)

Nice!

Do I see an LP12 on the right rack?

BTW, what's your thoughts on Win7/JRiver?

I'm currently evaluating the same combination with JRiver MC20. For the most part it's fine, but I have one 3 Act Opera by Wagner on DG that's gapless on a USB flash drive. It works as it's supposed to on my Denon AVR, but for some reason, the tracks are out of sequence in MC20. What am I missing here?

Hey Iain,

Yeah that's an '80s vintage, pre-Cirkus LP12 and very nice it is too :)

I installed Windows 7 on a partition on my mac mini because Jriver is more stable on that platform and like you, am using MC20. On the whole, I'm well impressed (once I stopped using MC20 on OSX) because it plays every format I need it to: FLAC, DVD-A rips (via DVD Audio Extractor), blu-ray audio/video rips (via MakeMKV) and SACD ISO files (ripped via my PS3).

It used to crash occasionally but, there's an option to switch to Audio Mode only or something similar, which can be done by clicking the 'View' dropdown menu at the top of the toolbar. Doing this has made is 99% stable and very rarely does it freeze or crash. I change views when I want to watch a ripped BDV, but switch back when I'm finished.

It sounds like a tagging issue if MC20 loads files out with their intended order and the only thing that springs to mind is correcting it manually (which should only have to be done once) by clicking into the Tagging View when you click on the album. Alternatively, open the folder in Windows Explorer and with each individual track, assign a track number before the wording of that track. E.g. if the track title is 'Wagner Aria, intro', change it to '01 Wagner Aria, intro'. This way when MC20 imports it, tracks should be the right order because numerical order should take priority over alphabetical order.

Classical music often has complicated tagging to deal with compared to pop/rock music and is something that occasionally prevents me from ripping SACDs because if the tagging is off on a particular SACD, my PS3 won't rip it, which so far has happened to a few classical SACDs.

If manually changing the tagging info doesn't solve it however, it's probably best to pop over to the Jriver Interact forum to get help from those who know Jriver inside out because I know how to use it like I know how to drive i.e. I can operate it, but I've only got a very basic idea of what goes on under the hood as it were.

This is a very interesting thread. My system:

Maplenoll Athena turntable
Coph Nia phono stage
Yamaha CD-2100 CD/SACD/DAC
Audio Research LS-25 MKII preamp
Pass Aleph 2 amps
Totem Mani 2 speakers.
Cheap Windows netbook with Fubar2000 for FLAC, DSD files via USB played on the CD-2100.

Mine is super simple.

Speakers Vivid Giya's 2
Amp-DAC Devialet 120
Acer laptop + JRiver

that's it, sounds marvelous.
