While we're at it: DaCapo released a most marvellous box of the Langgaard symphonies some years ago. Beautiful readings. Myself I prefer the early most romantic ones; others may have the preferences to the more advetnorous ones. There sure are a few peculiarities as well.
BUT BACK to the topic: NIELSEN
I'd very much like more comparisons between the recent Oramo/Bis recording of Nielsen's 5th, which I have heard (and liked,) and Gilbert's. I've never really understood the 6th, no more than I've realised that this is great music that I don't get the grip of.
My favourite Nielsen symphony is the 4th, Det uundslukkelige (That Which is Unexstingbishel; which the human soul). There are such great readings in 2channel cd by Blomstedt and Bernstein. In sacd Gilbert is no 1 to me. Such clarity and also some of that passion, which is the first thing I listen to in recordings, and which you really can only hear in a concert hall on a very good evening. I do recommend that Gilbert recording.
(Excuses for some misspellings, especiallably the Unexting..., English not my language really)
Edit: inextinguishable...
