Discussion: MacMillan: Seven Last Words from the Cross - Layton

This is very beautiful and touching work. MacMillan's style is understandable, his music isn't fully atonal. Especially the third movement, "Verily, I say unto thee, today thou shalt be with me in Paradise" is unforgettable listening experience. Solo violin's gentle melody flies upon [the] lower strings voices. This is perhaps the best modern choral work what I have heard! Do you agree?

You have actually heard it, right? ;-)

It is a great work. I found it very disturbing, and none the worse for that.

Naxos' recording is also very good although it isn't SACD. I haven't it, but I heard some movements from Naxos Music Library.
