I would like to recommend this set, but can not.
On the last 3 tracks of CD 02 of
Handel - Jubilate Deo - O Be Joyful, HWV 279
there are intrusive noises which sound electrical in nature.
( beginning at 03:01 on track 24 lasting 4 seconds)
These are evident on the CD layer as well as the SACD Stereo and MC layer.
I have bought 2 copies from Amazon Canada with the same problem.
SInce the noise occurs in 3 different physical locations on the disc I am assuming
a mastering error rather than a pressing problem which could happen at the outer
edges of the CD layer.
When I ripped the CD layer using XLD no errors are reported.
Playing on my Oppo 105-D I heard the noise on both the SACD stereo and MC layer.

I contacted Alia Vox about this but have no response yet.

ETA
Just bought the last 7 tracks (flac), 20-26, on CD 02 from Presto Classical UK
Handel - Jubilate Deo - O Be Joyful, HWV 279
Noise still there in same places.
So I will say that the master files are probably faulty, rather than a faulty pressing.
I doubt very much that this will be fixed and repressed.

That's too bad, thanks for the warning. Maybe there is still a chance to correct this error and issue replacement discs (CD2 only), if it is not on the recording itself. But for a small label, this isn't that easy, given the costs and low profit margin.

I heard from Eric Guillemaud at Alia Vox today.
I think what they are going to do is offer to send me another set.
What else can they do?
Sigh...just what I need...3 defective copies.

A new response from Eric Guillemaud of Alia Vox today:

"the noises that we can hear is not of electric nature.
This is the noise made by the chorus members when they rises from their noisy seats
(this was a live recording at the Royal Chapel in Versailles).

Many other noises have been deleted, but these ones were simply too loud."

So, problem is acknowledged.
Manuel Mohino, recording engineer, was also consulted but no fix possible.

Those HIP chorus chairs tend to creak a lot.

But seriously, are you and the Alia Vox people hearing the same noises, because you said "electrical in nature"?

It was just a guess.
Just never expected acoustic sourced noise on the basis of the very clean
sounding audio on all the other 13 Savall SACDs I own.

My copy has a short loud noise on multichannel track 17 of CD1 and a similar noise on the 2 channel SACD track 22 of CD2. These are CD defects rather recording artifacts. Anyone else get a copy with similar defects?
