This is what I wanted to ask, too. Is it that difficult/costly to provide room for a forum section on the new site? I really don't know the details of owning/building a site, that's why I'm asking. If it's costly or incredibly complicated, then fine, I can understand.
But if it's not, then why not providing a forum in the new format, seeing how many of the SA-CD.net members would like to have it?

It seems that with all the tremendous work Zeus & Company has allocated to the "New" Site....and it IS impressive.......that without the forum SA~CD.net will never be quite the same.

I don't think I stand alone when I say that a lot of my SACD and BD~A purchases originated with discussions on the forum and NOT from site reviews.

Is there any way feasible for a forum (and not merely a comments section) to co~exist with the new site?

I agree totally, Ralph. In fact, I think I’d say that most of my hi-res purchases have originated through the forum – either directly on an open thread – or through someone very kindly contacting me via a private message.

I think reviews are nice – and they can be very informative at times – subject of course to how well they’re written. I have also used reviews on sa-cd.net to guide my purchases in the past – and I have respect particularly for people such as Polly Nomial – as I like to think that someone that appreciates not only hi-res music and hi-fi, but is also musically literate (which I’m not!), will provide valuable and accurate information. I also respect people that write meaningful reviews, as I can appreciate how much work it can be to put something coherent on the virtual page - and that is just one reason why the forum has been very useful. In all the years that I have used this website, I have only written one review – and that is not something to be proud of. My whole working day is spent at a computer, so when I come home after a hard day at work, the last thing I want to see is a computer. In fact, when I’m not at work, I will go out of my way to avoid using the computer. That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking with it! Without the forum, where users can write informally and briefly about a disc, this site will not be the same.

Sure, forum posts go off topic at times, there’s sniping and irrelevant disagreement at times - and I’ve been guilty of hastily writing posts that are not always fully clear! Of course, we also know that DVD-As, CDs and other formats get discussed, which I have found very useful at times – and I can appreciate that discussion of recorded music without mentioning formats other than SACDs can be near impossible at times – or at very best quite restrictive.

I finally figured out how to change the password to one of my choosing (that I can remember when using different devices) on the new site. Instructions on how to get to that page or providing access directly from the upper right would be helpful.

Also figured it out .... eventually!.

Once logged in, select the human silhouette icon, select your email address and the option to change your password is presented.

Certainly not SIMPLES! As a certain market would say.

Still trying to figure out how to determine the new releases as they are added... anyone?

Click the "Music" link in the main menu. Result will be newest releases first.

UPDATE: The powers that be have changed the link. As above but now "Click here to change your password etc."

SIMPLES! As a certain meerkat would say... :)

I have as yet been unsuccessful in trying to log in. It tells me my password is incorrect. I get a prompt to enter my email to reset my password then it informs me that details will be sent to my email but I never receive an email. Has anyone else had this happen?

I am told there is no record of my email address so no go.
All is correct on original site.

I am open to change and I see many nice things about the new site. However the new site's focus seems to have shifted without notice to no longer be a place where anybodies like myself can review discs I am excited about, though we can comment apparently, which is not the same. This is sad.

As far as the user interface, what's odd is that most of the site is very nicely laid out indeed, except the navigation is a trainwreck, which ruins it. A mobile header should not be used when viewing on a desktop. It's standard practice to have a fully laid-out header that responsively wraps then shrinks / simplifies as the window gets narrower. It's pretty easy to achieve this with HTML and CSS alone. Also the design of the header on the new site, with the orange fade and indistinct icons, beyond being immediately mystifying, is unprofessional-looking and awkward to use. On a desktop at least, I should not have to click to get a dropdown to search. People expect a small search field up there somewhere (at all times, so people can always give up and start over). There are many choices in the header that drops from the hamburger icon, which seems to explain why they are hidden that way, however the approach doesn't help in real use, since the choices are not categorized. The emphasis is on three-to-a-column, instead of on how the links should be grouped. For instance, there are three "My" links in a column, then one more in the next column. The nav does nothing to teach me how the site is organized or how to start using it.

The new site carries over something that I disliked from a previous revamp of the old site: a randomized assortment of covers on the home page. If I reload, they change... but why? Perhaps it's trying to show me something different each time I visit? That's not a bad idea, but what I want to know when I hit the homepage is:
1. Have new discs been added to the list?
2. Have there been new reviews?
It annoys me that on both the old and new site I have to do a lot of clicking around to see what's going on. The desktop view has plenty of room to tell me these things. I see that the new site says "Recent Reviews" over the covers - but they are still randomized and I can't see the latest ones.

Lastly, I come to the site to learn about multi-channel releases. It has been a great way to find out about them. The new site is emphasizing "better than CD quality"... which is not a real thing, just a marketing thing. I can imagine why the recording industry might promote "high res audio", but why base an independent site on it? Why not focus instead on the things that matter, like how recordings were mastered to begin with, and how the multichannel was implemented (some multichannel discs work better than others, sort of how I feel about 3D movies)?

While I agree with most of your post, Christopher, I took exception with your last paragraph.....better than CD quality....a marketing tool?

Anyone who visits SA~CD.net is doing so for Better than CD quality 'assurance.'

As to the recording process: a lot of discs only state DDD........PCM or DSD? On a lot of newer discs Zeus/Polly stopped listing whether an SACD was DSD/PCM because of lack of info on the disc itself.

Usually, the reviews themselves will delve into the multichannel Sound Quality. Would be impossible to clarify how a disc sounds unless you've actually played it on your system. And like the 3D analogy you made, quality can differ according to one's system set up and in the case of 3D BD~V.....the quality of one's monitor and ancillary equipment.

In a perfect world, Christopher, all your demands might possibly be satisfied......Some posters would love to know the A/D converter utilized in transferring analogue to DSD and so would I but unless it's specifically stated in the disc's liner notes......that, too, will remain a mystery!

Yes, "better than CD quality" is meaningless from the listener's perspective. All the talk of DSD vs PCM is nonsense, and so is thinking that we're really getting better audio quality beyond 16-bit / 44.1kHz for playback. It's the recording and mastering that really matter (a lot), and the listener's playback equipment.
