I agree Mark, HRA reviewers have been doing a fine job...although I still feel multiple reviews of a given title (by multiple reviewers of course) can provide an evaluative and literary diversity a single review simply can't achieve; and, because we live if a world where everyone is different from everyone else - with different experiences, aspirations, perceptual sets etc - I believe collective contributions can connect with a greater number of people than one review can connect.

Think of it as a buffet; some really get off on breadsticks and dips, others on sandwiches and pickles and others besides, on cheesy nibbles. In other words, if we could all contribute a review, there would be something for everyone - both as a reviewer and review-reader - because some reviews are as tasty as breadsticks and dips, others as sandwiches and pickles and others besides as cheesy nibbles.

When I'm inclined to make the effort, I'm a metaphoric writer and try to conjure forth poetic images when trying to articulate my thoughts, but I know not everyone likes that sort of style; some prefer a dry, fact-based review that says what's what without fuss or excitement...but the point is, it's good to have a choice to consume more than one flavour of review, which is what we'd have if we could all write a review that's recognised as a review rather than an After Eight Mint.

I am 'warming' up to the new site and as previously mentioned, applaud Zeus' decision to include a comment section.

As far as reviews are concerned.......if one has a 'dissenting' opinion then the comment section should adequately address an opposing viewpoint.

NO site is perfect and fulfills every posters likes and dislikes so get used to it.

Will never "warm" up to it and will never sign up anyway.

Timmy, it IS what it IS! No use trying to turn back the clock.

The new site is there so whether you want to take advantage of what it has to offer...or, NOT, is certainly your perogative.

I will applaud Zeus for at least keeping up with all or most of the new releases and for the inclusion of DVD~A and BD~V (which I hope expands as time goes on).

Give me the name of a site which satisfies ALL of our desires, because, IMHO, I haven't visited one yet that fulfills ALL of my expectations.

Agree. I have decided that I am going to embrace the new site. It still has a lot of information and will find it helpful for separating me from my hard earned cash. Will miss some of the personalities here, especially from some of the more knowledgable folks. It would be nice if said folks could post the occasional article on the site but it is pretty clear that the owners have determined their direction.

I know Mark and Rick are doing jazz and rock reviews, which of course are always very good, but not to take anything away from you guys, your style, again very good, is predictable in your writing just as mine is. But multiple styles make it fun for the hobbyist.

Mark or Rick, do you feel pressure to keep up with writing reviews for this new site? I know I would.

Mark,

I made a commitment to write reviews every month. In October, I'll post several reviews of more recently recorded music—I'm very interested in new developments in the jazz genre, and in high-resolution original recordings. But there is no way that one reviewer or even a team of reviewers can possibly cover all of the roughly 1500 jazz genre titles contained in the site database.

There have been many excellent jazz reviews posted here over the years that members could consider adding to HRAudio as title comments. There's no feedback mechanism to indicate whether a site review is considered helpful—the only way I'll know if my HRAudio reviews are useful (or interesting, or dull) is if people add their own comments or responses.

I will be posting a mix of shorter and longer reviews—the piece about Kind of Blue is not the kind of essay I would post about most jazz reissues—but I would personally like to see many different points of view about jazz recordings (and all genres) contributed to the new site.

They added the barcode page to the new site, so I'm moving over there too, although I'll be checking the forum. I still think it's a massive waste to lose the forum, especially since it enabled dialogue between labels and purchasers in a way the new format doesn't encourage.

The information about new releases is insignificant compared to what can be had through the forum. Stephen doesn't listen to anyone, however. I've never seen someone so belligerent and uninterested in listening to those who frequent his site.

Ubertrout,

I can't seem to find the "new barcode page" can you show where?

OR

Do you mean the new side bar that is titled "Recent Reviews" and "Recent Comments" ?

And Undertone, thanks for your feedback. You are correct, we who are the hobbyist should not shy away from writing a review in the Comments section. We the hobbyist should also not shy away from agreeing, disagreeing, adding, etc to the Comments section of the particular reviewer.

I remember a big beef of mine was that after a review, there was either helpful or not helpful. I felt people where choosing as if the review was a popularity contest.

I think the new site after getting used to it will be a marked improvement for the hobbyist as myself.

I also agree with others that the Forum is very important for friendships, even with ones that you love to hate.

Stephen Stills said, if you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with.

Personally, I think the forum's demise is because he got sick of listening to us...bicker, insult each other, wander completely off topic, push technologies beyond the scope of the site, etc. This was always delineated a "moderated" forum, which we were free to join or not, but some of us have repeatedly poked the (very light handed) moderator in the eye with a pointed verbal stick and then wonder why he's lost patience. The absurdities and mean spiritedness of the forum have caused me to absent myself from the site several times over the years. Frankly I miss the ability of members to submit reviews much more than I miss the forum. There're now simply too many holes in the review section of the new site.
