This fascinating Box Set is a part of the Sibelius Celebration Year - Year 2015 marks the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Jean Sibelius (1865–1957). The album will be available in September.

The booklet is available here:
http://www.bis.se/bis_pages/PDF/_booklet/BIS-2076_booklet.pdf

As you can see, the 3 discs box will be multi-channel (5.0) SACD. What a pleasure!

The previous SACD of the team - Sibelius: The Tempest, The Bard, Tapiola - Okko Kamu - got many acclaimed awards, for example Diapason d'Or de l'Année (2011). ClassicsToday reviewed the disc with the highest ratings 10/10.

Any comments?

Ya, it's what I've been waiting years for.

Yes, I agree. Very interesting newcomer to the catalogue. We haven't many Sibelius cycles on SACDs - Neeme Järvi (DG), Vladimir Ashkenazy (Exton) & Sir Colin Davis (LSO Live) - so I am very excited to get this one.

I want this. Is this going to be a situation where it takes 6 months to get to the US though?

Well, the box set is already available in Finland. The first copies appeared in Lahti during the Sibelius Festival. Unfortunately I wasn't there so I cannot say anything about the recording. But the international release will be available soon - we will see.

A video has now been posted interesting to see the microphone set up etc which shows to the uninitiated the effort made to bring this wonderful music to our ears!

If so, download will be the best choice as detailed here:

Hard for me to tell how many microphones were utilized.

There are quite a lot of microphones. However, it looks that the main pickup is a set of 3 spaced (omnidirectional?) microphones across the front and above the orchestra (on stands), like the Mercury Living Presence set up, plus a pair further back and out presumably for surround. Then a lot of spot microphones.
