Now that's great news. But remember that the cd release was somewhat strange. Love me do was included; # 17 in the UK. Strawberry Fields, a #1 with Penny Lane (two A-sides) was excluded. A horrible decision by EMI which now has come to punish them in the shape of Warner Br.

Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields didn't get to number 1, at least not in the UK. Was kept off the top spot by Engelbert Humperdinck.

Oh dear. That's a memory I had managed to suppress for almost 50 years.

Great news, Rob. Running 110 minutes in upsampled 4K resolution and with Giles Martin and associate at the 5.1 mixing board I think we're in for a real treat.

No doubt at some point the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray version will come out and you'll no longer have to upsample.

Considering the variable quality of the original videos, I sincerely doubt 4K will be much of an upgrade but grateful that they saw fit to utilize the 'newest' technology when assembling this package.

I do believe 4K will be tough sell to a public who currently have millions of existing 2K flat screens in their arsenals....and I understand the movie studios are really not thrilled with the prospect of releasing in 4K....

They're still releasing MORE DVDs than BD~Vs....at present!

Of course they are, they have loads of crappy source material they can continue to recycle...but the day and date titles are what matters and if the studios can sell more they will. 4K titles will carry a premium just like BD will, replication lines don't need to be completely retooled, there is no format war only how things like HDR will be authored, etc.

Keep in mind that in the EARLIEST days of the format war, 2006 to 2007, indie studios like R&B Films estimated they only needed to move 20,000 titles to completely break even on a project. Now with the replication techniques seeing maximum yields that number will be even less. For a niche market, 4K will have little to no trouble moving day and date titles. I don't see them moving to release old TV shows on 4KBD but honestly people aren't looking for those titles.

Anything shot on film should see improvement on 4K and it's not just resolution but more efficient codecs, better colour reproduction, better greyscale, contrast, etc. Even 2K source material should look noticeably improved on a side by side demo from BD to 4KBD.

Thank gawd there is no disc format war for Ultra HD Blu-ray but there is still something of a standards battle going on precisely around how to do HDR. There are some 5 or so technologies, from NHK, BBC, Technicolor, Dolby and Philips. They don't cover exactly the same issues but it's still going to be interesting to see how this works out eventually.
