Gergiev's the last "great" recording project for LSO Live - as a principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra - is the set of Scriabin's Symphonies Nos. 1-4. After their successful recordings of Brahms's and Szymanowski's Symphonies, Gergiev turns his view to Scriabin. The first disc of the cycle will be available on 30th October. Hybrid SACD contains two layers: 5.1 multi-channel and 2.0 Stereo.

Gergiev LSO Brahms were by no means successfull.
Why is 5th (Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, Op. 60) not supposed to be included?

Oh yes, I didn't know that Scriabin has done Five Symphonies. This last will be probably also a part of the series.

The Lawo label has also announced a complete cycle to be released over the next two years. Starting with symphonies 3 and 4, the set will feature the Oslo Philharmonic under Vasily Petrenko. I think I'll await that one rather than lashing out for the erratic Maestro Gergiev and the lackluster Barbican sound

Don't forget Pletnev, on Pentatone. He'll be doing more Scriabin, right?

Pletnev's recording of symphonies 1 and 4 (Poeme de l'extase) is my classical SACD of the year, so far. The sound and playing is gorgeous, and so is the music.

When it rains (Scriabin) it pours. Gergiev is hit or miss, but he could hit it with Scriabin...I'm curious to hear what results.

Or more likely a miss as these will be recordings of the live concerts from the subscription series some of which were anything but memorable. The impression of Gergiev is sadly all too often quantity over quality
