I would also like to see them reissue the Maag/Mendelssohn recordings of the Scottish Symphony and the Midsummer Nights dream incidental music. Classic in every way and wonderful sound.

I have the Japanese 2004 hybrid SACD of this title - the symphony is indeed a classic and the sound is miraculous, but the MSD, recorded a year or two earlier, sounds very much of its time. The latter was recorded in February 1957. whereas the symphony and Hebrides overture were taped in April 1960, this time with Wilkie at the controls! The Decca Classics RBCD of this issue, at least in the UK, had the Hebrides performance by Maag as its filler - this was a stunning performance and recording and a much better match for the symphony if a little less generous in running time. That would indeed make a great SACD!

I have the Classic "Gold" CDs of both the Scottish and MSD from back in the day. To my ears the sound of both are excellent, if MSD is missing the final measure of magic present in the symphony. But back on topic, I don't know if the world needs any more Beethoven symphony reissues, but I'd love to have the Schmidt-Isserstedt VPO Beethoven in hires.

Wow, Mahler 3 on SACD! Has this been done before?

I have a Mahler third with Dutch RCO and Riccardo Chailly on sacd surround. Of course Universal chose to rerelease it in stereo only on blu-ray.

That was an outstanding set, and the soloists in the Ninth were IMHO the finest on record. The two women had no trouble making themselves heard in distinction to one another and to the choir.

I received Argenta Espana hybrid SACD in the mail today. The previously released SHM SACD doesn't go for anything less than $50, so this was quite a bit cheaper.

Anybody heard some of these issues yet? What is the verdict?

Has anyone heard the initial releases of the Oistrakh/Bruch or the Espana disc? What is the verdict on the remastering?
