Classics Review gave this a 7/7. Hopefully its just the reviewer's bias but anxious to hear your thoughts.

I think that "classicstoday" is what is really meant. They provided the 7/7 review.

I preordered it and got it last week, but only had the chance to listen to it once. I felt it was brisk, but superbly well done. Will listen more soon...

Yes, Classics Today gave it a 7/7.....I am FOREVER done with those YAHOOS!!!

I have 15 recordings of Mahler's 5th (on both SACD and CD) and this recording is the BEST I ever heard, both in sound and performance....better than Rattle, Chailly, Solti, Bernstein, Jarvi, Mehta, Barenboim, Inbal..period....MTT's Mahler 5 is the best one of his cycle so far!!

The tone deaf musically clueless reviewers at Classics Today can keep their mass fi gear (well, a notch above mass fi) and blather on. I have seen them give 10/10 ratings to recordings that I have listened to with friends and we all sit STUNNED that those yokels gave such ratings!! And this is on NUMEROUS recordings!!!!

I will trust the reviews of my fellow SA-CD.net members any day of the week before I ever trust those goobers again!!! Well, I never really did, but this seals it forever!!

Cheers,

If that's your bar, then I'd say you can do better, such as Levine, Dohnanyi and Gielen.

I also have Levine and Dohnanyi (among the many recordings I own but forgot to mention) and MTT is still the best...Levine is fun (like some of the other Mahler he did with CSO), but the Dohnanyi CD is borderlinre DOUR....strange since the Dohnanyi recording is a far cry from the killer live operfromance I heard with him and Cleveland in Severance (that was just a season or two later than the recording)

Regarding Gielen....about 10 years ago I heard Gielen live with the Chicago SO crawl thorough Mahler's 6thit was sslloooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...that perfromance ran almost two hours!!! Weeee..I have never listened to another Gielen again..nor will I.

Thanks for the suggestuions, though I will keep the MTT as my new benchmark!!!!

Cheers,
