Thread: Let It Bleed SACD or Not?

Does anyone know how I can tell if the disk of Let I Bleed by the Rolling Stones is a true SACD or not? I ordered 5 Rolling Stone SACDs. 4 came in digipaks and each had printed the "SACD logo" on the actual disk. The 5th, Let It Bleed came in a jewel case, says "DSD" on the disk, but NO mention of SACD or the SACD logo. (Other logos on the disk included: "Direct Sound/SMB" ("Super Bit Mapping Direct"), "Stereo," and "Compact Disk (Digital Audio)".
The four that are definately SACD have all the above logos on the disk plus have the SACD logo as well.

The liner notes says: "ABKCO utilized Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding (the same technology ussed for Super Audio CD(SACD) which captures every nuance of the original master tapes."
The way I read this is that it would have been mastered with DSD, but still be a 16 bit output CD.

I bought this from CD Universe which clearly described it as an SACD in their description. But I'm not so sure that this isn't a switch that I have heard has happened with other Rolling Stone titles.

I don't have my universal player Oppo 970 hooked up to a monitor, but if I did would I get additional options showing up if it is a true SACD?

Barcode, as well as number printed on the disk, is 18771-90042

(To further complicate matters, I just checked Beggars Banquet in the new SACD (for sure, from CD Universe) in the DIGIPAK, against the Beggars Banquet (still sealed in the JEWEL CASE) from Amazon that I am planning on sending back. Amazon describes this as Digitally Remastered, and not as SACD. But the barcode label on both these disks is 18771-95392.)

Can anyone help to sort this out?

This has been discussed many times before.

Well, I've been answering my own question with the help from the The Seventh Taylors excellent SACD FAQ. I turned the CD in question over an looked to see if the back looked golden toned (as most SACDs) or silver as most regular CDs. Unfortunately the back of the CD in question is silver in color.

So links from Amazon as well as CD Universe (even CD Universe literature clearly states it's a SACD)are not to be trusted when it comes to the Rolling Stones.

Hi, This has also been discussed..Some Amazon dealers just scan disc barcodes /cases and others are more carefull,,Some disc always crop up....Genius Loves Company the most Ive observed....
Generally speaking the big dealers on Amazon like Caimon .DVD Legacy are usually (nearly always) a safe bet. However If you see a New Dealer selling One Offs,,,,Look to see how many other sacds the seller is listing... I would suggest you do as I do.Send an email asking the seller to confirm this is an sacd copy..To date I have had many "Oh sorry".Only about 4 items were received incorrectly after this..They never argue when you demand refund as you go through Amazons dispute procedure...Poroblem is getting your return postage back on Amazon sales..
.Worse still is Ebay.." What an sacd?" I just copied from the last item.. Duh...

Yes I have seen that thread as I started it awhile back on my first order that turned out not to be SACDs. Did you already know that? From the way I read it there was nothing conclusive that was said there. Someone was going to check barcodes and get post back but never did. I kept checking back but the thread went dead.

When the second shipment from CD Universe, which seems to be much clearer in their SACD information sent me the same disk, I questioned if maybe both disks really were SACDs after all. I thought I'd open it back up again, giving more information, to see if anyone would post something new. Now, while unintentional, I have had misinformation from this site. The only thing is that when you're new (to this site), you don't know what information is accurate and what isn't. So a little patience would be appreciated.
