Hi All

I am a new member here but have been looking at the site for quite a while to pick out good SACD albums to play on my new SACD setup. I have noticed that two of Alison Krauss Albums, Alison Krauss & Union Station Live, and New Favorite, are highly reccomended for quality of songs and sound. But when I try to buy them they are not available in SACD! I have tried Amazon, and Acustic Sounds both and they don't have them. My question is if the music is so great then why are these albums not available in SACD? must be a reason but it doesn't make any sense to me.

Thank You

TomP

The live album is very nice, yes great actually. It can be found in Sweden (www.cdon.com). I did not know of the other two... Thanks for the hint!

try www.amazon.co.uk and look for: alison krauss SACD

You get three items right now and these are the results. The first still availible:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Alison-Krauss/dp/B00008NGHI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/203-9982733-9309521?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1185742306&sr=8-1

Hi Tommy

Thanks for the information. I am in the USA, I have never bought from overseas, can I do that using my american credit cards and isn't it much more expensive to buy overseas?

Looks to me like they have gone O/P. They are excellent (especially "Live") so if you can get them overseas you should.

Yes, European price levels are quiet a bit higher. But you can use things like Visa and Mastercard at most shops.
If you really want these albums (which are great!) then buy them if you can find them. They are getting more and more difficult to find.
Even if you see them on ebay, prices go through the roof.

Yes - this is true and an issue to consider with some SACDs . It will most likely continue to be an important factor. The lack of new pressings creates a good second hand market for those who happen to own the right SACD recordings.

I think there is quite a good chance that this Krauss/live album will become a true collector’s item. There is probably only one (?) batch of pressings. Not that many are on the second hand market, since those who own it will most likely be very dedicated to this genre (and to a remarkably voice!) and want to keep it because of its musical substance. So there is a potentially positive flip side to the high initial cost: A good second market. So - buy two then :). In a couple of years it might be a very good investment. A kind of money back guarantee in this case I think: One for the price of two - easily!

i should agree.

i have turned to the maker recently:

i would like to know if you have any plan to release the sacd-s
Alison Krauss: Live
and
Alison Krauss + Union Station: New Favorite
again. (if the price for a used copy is about 100 usd it must be
worth releasing these recordings in sacd format again).

i also do not quite understand why you have not released
her new album
Alison Krauss: A Hundred Miles or More
in sacd format. sacd means sonic quality for music lovers.

the respond i got is not encouraging:

to tell you the truth, we have not done well with SACD's, even the live Alison
Krauss (despite the raves & kudos). Unfortunately too, we're not alone; the
place we were having them made went out of business and the only other place we
could find was in Germany, which became cost-prohibitive. At this point, all
Rounder SACD's are going out of print as we run out, with the exception of our
George Thorogood reissues which are dual CD / SACD only. I believe the
exhorbitant prices at Amazon & ebay are due to the interest of smaller number
of audiophiles (who have my sympathies!), but not the general public; I only
say this as sales were quite slow for these items when they were in print.

Sorry! It seems the current trend is toward lower fidelity (MP3's etc), but
hopefully the public will come around at some point.

Dagnabit, that's depressing. I need to hurry up and get that Natalie McMaster disk, and probably the Bruce Cockburn as well.

I just picked up the Natalie Mcmaster SACD. Regarding the Bruce Cockburn SACD....I have seen this SACD command big $$$ on one of the auction. I always meant to pick up that copy I see at my local Best Buy. Perhaps I should do it now.

Yeah I am finding that I am having a real difficult time finding any new Jazz or POP
SACDs not counting the newly released Genesis and Depeche mode series. Most
new releases seem to be DVD/CD.
