We really need a Pentatone for pop music. There were plenty of great quad albums, for example "Doobie Brothers: What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits".

And I REALLY wish that Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" would come out on SACD (I can't recall if it was ever quadraphonic).

Gloria Estefan's best albums would be great in surround sound - too bad she was part of the stereo-only SACD introduction.

Manhattan Transfer: Offbeat of Avenues... would be GREAT!

(Club) dance music could be great, too, a great opportunity to play with surround mixes.

We have enough surround recordings of artists playing a single (non-pipe organ) instrument or vocalists with no backup or only a small group.

Let's get more of those dense textures opened up and multitracked recordings mixed for surround.

Copying of data from one digital media to another can today be done with very high reliability, depending on the actual digital media of course. So whether it is DSD or DVD-A does not matter in this context as it is just digital data. This has been the case for decades.

Copying can take a very long time, but in the end it can be verified that it is indeed a bit-for-bit copy.

Hey whether it is DSD or DVD-A does matter if the original masters, copying from a 24 bit PCM master to DVD audio is just like copy a list of binary numbers, but to copy to SACD, it has to be converted to DSD, it's hard to imagine how that would magically increase sonic purity, if the aural information wasn't in the 24 bit master, it can't be recovered when converted to DSD (two plus two does not make five).

As for copying taking a long time, I don't understand what 'long time' means in this context nor know who said anything about it (before you). If it was 24 bit resolution at say 96 khz, the it can be verified the a DVD-A but not an SACD copy is a bit-for-bit copy.

Yes, but the original masters of the Beatles catalog aren't digital--they are in analogue.

I wasn't talking about either the session tapes or the tapes on which the original final mixes were prepared, but the digital remaster (that is the original masters for CD), I'm not all too surprised you missed the point what I think about it. So, for an SACD re release, we would have to start the remastering process all over again, while I hope the reason is obvious, it is mentioned in my post above.

Of course you would have to start the remastering process over again. That is what they did with the Living Stereo and Mercury SACDs. You go back to the master tapes and remaster into DSD. You don't remaster off the digital remaster.

I think the original digital remasters of these (Living stereo and Mercury living presence CD's were done more than ten years earlier, when these formats were less readily avalible (the original remasters may have been done at much lower resolution). I know they did that, but I would rather the tapes be left to preserve. Why DSD remaster and release on SACD when you already have good 24 bit remasters to copy bit for bit to DVD-A (plenty of universal players out there), remember that the Beatles recordings actually had to be digitally restored, this requires processing which is impossible to carry out in the DSD domain. This is because some of the tapes date back to 1962 and suffer from distortion accumulated in storage. What about the Living Stereo and Mercury living presence recordings?

Amen!!! 2112, Moving Pictures....the list goes on and on...more Pink Floyd as well

Coulden't agree more....All Rush (especially Caress of Steel, All The Worlds a Stage, and also Grace Under Pressure) and more pink floyd. Also, all Nick Drake original 3 albums. The guy made 3 pieces of ART...I'm listning to A treasury by Nick Drake which is a compilation, but man, does it sound far superior to any other releases. This is my first post, but I'll be adding more as I get time. Great site.

Sadly, given the rumours that are a near certainty to be confirmed, how about Julia Fischer?

I would like to see Prince's best work released on SACD. He has high production values so they would be certain to be good quality, especially if re-mastered from the original tapes.

From my point of view everything that has been released on Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MoFi) Gold CD has to be reedited on SACD.

And naturally : PINK FLOYD, SUPERTRAMP, NIRVANA, PRINCE

It would help to have very good support/mixing at a much reasonnable price.

I am also missing one David Bowie and one Talk talk album not yet edited

I forgot to mention Cat Stevens, U2, more Björk, Portishead (Could this help saving the poor recording quality ?), Massive attack, Lou reed, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Otis redding, Lisa gerard and I certainly still forget a lot
