Interestingly the ELP SACD had this little feature as well. It clearly says 'STS' on it. Whatever that means. Maybe they forgot about that on the Paranoid Disc.

Do you mean 5.1 DTS ?. This would be tolerable and would still get my order.

Menu on disc does say DTS 5.1. Unfortunately I don't have a surround system.

I did some research and it seems that 2.0 can be as high as 24 bit/48 KHz and it does sound better than the CD in initial listening.

However, while DVD-A in my player shows bit depth and sample rate, this disk shows bit rate. For what it's worth the bit rate goes as high as 8MBits, although this does include a slowly scrolling wallpaper for each track.

Tell you what, the stereo soundtrack sounds very good - much better (open, bigger, extended) than my last remastered CD. With nothing else to compare it to, other than my original Vinyl, I am tempted to say it's good enough.

I noticed that the bit rate when the video isn't moving is 3.5Mbit/s which should deliver a good sound.

O.K, can I get a confirmation here? One Amazon blogger reports that this is a DVD-A ("I have it in my hand!!!!.....), while both Amazon and CDUniverse still list it as an SACD. After viewing the enlarged back cover at Amazon, I believe it to be- No SACD, and whatever else, I frankly don't know. Thanks

It's a DVD with DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 2.0.

The back of the package lists it as:

"DVD Audio 5.1 STS / 2.0 LPCM STEREO" Very clever!

It does not display it as a DVD-A in my player but as DVD-Video

Has that cleared things up? :) :)

it is definitely NOT an SACD.

i've listened to the quad mix on the DVD "bonus disc" and it's very good IMO.

Does anyone have the European release? Maybe the situation is similar to the Genesis Remasters and the SACD is only included in the European release due to the 'charge three times for three layers' policy in the US.

Again, this is exactly what is written on the ELP SACD release. Strange. Except for the DVD part.

Purchased my copy from Spin CDs in the UK.
The Denon 3910 and Sony DA-3000ES show the following
disk 1 RBCD 44.1kHz 16-bit
disk 2 DVD-V audio option 1 stereo channel dolby 2.0 448kbps 48kHz 16-bit
audio option 2 multi-channel DTS 5.1 1536kbps 48kHz 16-bit
disk 3 RBCD 44.1kHz 16-bit

The multi-channel program is 5.1. Sub-woofer reads LFE content. Center channel is very prominent. What the heck happened to the original quad mix ?
No SACD layer, No DVD-A and no pure quad mix. humpf !

I consider this a simple novelty. My 38 year old record sounds better.

I got mine from Amazon UK yesterday, and it's the same as mentioned above, 2 RBCD + 1 DVD-Video :-(
