Yes mine arrived yesterday but I was out with friends last night so all I have done is look at it!

Well I just had my first listen. Although I lived with this band, seeing them several times through the first albums I never owned this particular album. I borrowed it a few times and have bits of it in a boxed CD set.

Be aware, for a moment I was convinced that this was either 3 CDs or 2 CDs and a DTS DVD of some kind. The first 2 discs I tried showed as CDs and the 3rd (because there is no more room) has been squeezed into the sleeve with the booklet. This disk is labelled "Audio 5.1 STS / 2.0 LPCM Stereo" on the back of the package and DVD 5.1 Mix in the booklet! I could not see any mention of SACD anywhere at all. Thankfully it shows as an SACD when it goes into the player.

Its too early to say anything that I would stand by but the first impressions are of really huge dynamic range - to the point where I had to reach for the volume (on my remote) a few times. There is much drama in this disc. And it certainly oozes lots of detail throughout. I wouldn't characterise it as warm sounding but I fully enjoyed it anyway. There is no point saying anything else for now. I will add a review later on.

Please, lets have the other albums....

save your money - do not buy this cd !!!!H (review from amazon.com)

Still Wrong (review from amazon.com)

These are the highlights of the reviews (posted by who?) of the Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Brain Salad Surgery SACD on SA-CD.net.

If you bother to check amazon.com, you will see that these reviews are from December 10, 2007 and February 10, 2007, respectively, way before this SACD was released, so they certainly don't refer to the SACD but probably to a previous CD incarnation.

Why are these reviews posted on SA-CD.net?

The reviews from amazon.com are placeholders. As soon as someone here writes a review, they'll disappear (hint hint).

I would like to notify kind members of this forum, that New Jakko Jakszyk mix available from 06/02/2014 is STEREO only. No m-ch mix is present in this double CD & DVD-A package from SONY Legacy.

Yes, you're right. I received my 3-disc Deluxe album earlier this week and discovered that when I played the DVD-A for the first time - I wondered why no audio was coming out the rear speakers etc. A disappointment for sure, however good the disc is. What's also a bit of a shame is that the liner notes booklet appears to be a "reduced-down" version of that which comes with the 6-disc Super Deluxe Edition (which supposedly does have a DVD-A with a MCH audio option), but the print is so small that it's hard to read. The booklet with my edition mentions that disc 4 is the DVD-A with a 5.1 audio option! A bit poor I'd say.

So I now have the Rhino DVD-A version of this album which has a 5.1 option, but no stereo option, and the latest Sony DVD-A version which has stereo, but no 5.1 option.

Nice album though - bring on "Pictures at an Exhibition" and "Trilogy" - with 5.1 option of course!

Pics & info on both the Super Deluxe and 3-disc versions, together with discussion on the complete fiasco of what is and what's not on the different DVD-A's in each set unravel in this thread from this page onwards here: http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?15301-ELP-Emerson-Lake-amp-Palmer-Cataloge-in-5-1-Surround/page72 (be warned, there's 13 pages so far since the SDE set came out and some very hacked off people contributing once the full picture of these releases set in..!)

Hi,

one or two years ago, rhino published a 3 disc album, which has the mch sacd included. See here: Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Brain Salad Surgery.
I have this one and it's great. But 'til today, I did not compared the sacd mch version with the dvd-audio dts version from the dvd-audio, which came out some years ago.
So, I will not buy the 3disck or more disc versions, which is available right now.
I'm very lucky of the discs I have.

Greetings

Joerg-Thomas
